What can a Chemical Engineer do?

What are some of the jobs that you, as a chemical engineer can do?

It is natural to feel confused as to what kind of a career path to choose when you're into chemical engineering-especially since it's such a vast and diverse field. That's why, we've made our list of top 5 jobs you could do as a chemical engineer. Hope it helps!

1. Petroleum Engineer

Of course we had to mention this one. Being one of the most highly paid engineering jobs in the world, they evaluate, develop and produce oil drilling and gas field processes. One of the reasons why Petroleum Engineering is so well paid, is because fossil fuel consumption is at an all time high at this point of time. They even collaborate with other engineers and field scientists to develop new drilling techniques. They also research more ways to reduce the stress on the environment which comes along with the career. All in all, it is quite a desirable career in terms of your growth in the field, as well as research and real life contribution.

2.  Process Engineer

Process engineers assess the effectiveness of a process, redesign the parameters of the process and upgrade/change the equipment based on the parameters. They also create ways to reuse waste, interact with other engineers about new process methods to reduce cost of the factories and industries. Process engineering is one of the foundation stones of chemical engineering, as taught in most universities around the world. It encapsulates the basics that every engineer must know.

3. Environment Engineer

As the name suggests, these are the Chemical engineers that are mainly concerned about the impact made by industries that jeopardize the environment. They perform functions like optimizing waste disposals and recycling processes. They also enforce environmental regulations because they basically aim to keep people safe from potential hazards from the industries that lead to pollution and other harmful effects. Environmental engineering is a field which will always sustain considering how the world is constantly progressing in all aspects, putting the environment at risk. The environment can be cleaned by external bodies such as the municipal, but effective approaches always bein at the root level- which is an environment engineer.

4. Food Engineer

A food engineer, is quite literally a necessity. Food is life, and just like environmental engineering, the root of the food we consume on the daily has its genesis from a chemical engineering planning the production processing, storage and distribution. When we buy food items that come with a certain shelf life or an expiry date, it's most likely that those specifications were calculated by a chemical engineer. That's right, that's how fundamental a food engineers role is, in the food industry. Not only that, but they use their training to assess the quality of the food that the world will ingest, storage time and modified foods. Some food engineers also focus on the equipment design for effective food processing, taste refining or even the texture of food products while supervising the packaging and food quality.

5. Nuclear Engineer

Nuclear Engineers basically study and implement knowledge to figure out how to utilize nuclear or radiation energy in industrial, mechanical or pharmaceutical settings. They work to develop nuclear medicines, or using nuclear power in industrial processes. Nuclear engineers also assess interactions between materials at nuclear facilities, ad they examine the chemical composition of source materials while performing experiments on nuclear materials. They also monitor nuclear facility operations and design or develop equipment that support them.

That's all we have for this article! We'll post more types of positions you could aim for, as a chemical engineer, but until then, Happy Learning:)
